Research Programme
Waste Refinery is a Swedish Excellence Centre, which was established 2006 and is coordinated by SP Technical Research Institute of Sweden. The target groups of the centre are the industry, research and development organisations and the society in general.Waste Refinery's projects cover various conversion techniques in the fields of biological and thermal treatment, and uses system analysis as a tool for estimates of the prospects of these techniques in different scenarios. In order to avoid sub-optimization of problems that comprises different technology fields, interdisciplinary projects will be carried out where optimum systems in balance will be highlighted.
Waste Refinery offers an unique opportunity to combine modelling, laboratory and full scale experiments. Initial work will also consist of the collection and systemisation of existing knowledge and experience of various waste fractions and different treatment methods. To implement and commercialize project results will strongly be emphasised within Waste Refinery.
Examples of Research and Development areas are:
■ System Analysis
□ Economic and environmental evaluation of technologies
□ Evaluation of the waste market today and tomorrow
□ The use of energy products
■ Biological and Thermal Treatment
□ Fuel flexibility
□ Energy efficiency
□ Process optimization and reduced LCC
□ Development of on-line measuring techniques
■ Interdisciplinary
□ Gate-control
□ Processes integration (optimization)
□ Risk and acceptance
